According to Laura Bradley of Vanity Fair, Comedy Central has greenlit a new series and several pilots to fill the void left by the departure of the network’s premier series, Key & Peele.
Announced on Tuesday morning, Comedy Central will be going forward with Baron Vaughn & Open Mike Eagles’ stand-up comedy & musical series The New Negroes. The series is based on performances by the LA-based comedian & rapper duo which seeks to change the way Black entertainment and culture is perceived and consumed.
Ramsey will be taking a stab at the “politi-splainer” late night show format, which she will also be executive producing. The show is set “to round up ‘the most diverse set of comedians on TV’ to ‘heal America through brutal comedy, surprising guests, and breakdowns of the most pressing cultural issues you never knew you cared about.’
With shows like Atlanta, and Insecure paving the way for Black TV creators and producers; it seems like Black culture is finally getting the shine we’ve so rightly earned.
AKA, this is about to be the Blackest TV year EVER.
